The Georgian House Hotel, London: 20%, exactly as promised

A collection of historic buildings brought together into a beautiful boutique hotel in central London, whose owners wanted environmental gains without extensive investment in new equipment.

Measured reduction
20%
Energy use per degree day, after twelve months of data
Saved in year one
£3,791
Against a £5,000 installation: 76% ROI in year one, 760% over ten years
Carbon reduction
11.1 tonnes
From a 60,659 kWh reduction in gas use

The challenge

As a historic property that has evolved over time, the hotel runs on gas boilers tucked into basements and broom cupboards. Heating and hot water were costing in the region of £40,000 a year, and the owners wanted a solution that did not require extensive investment in new equipment.

What we did

The system was installed in October 2024 with a guarantee that the installation cost would not exceed the year-one saving. Seven boilers were fitted across five plant rooms: three 30kW boilers, a 100kW boiler and a 60kW boiler on site, plus two 30kW boilers in apartments serviced by the hotel away from the main buildings. The whole installation took three hours, with no downtime and no disruption to hotel or restaurant operations.

The result

After twelve months of data, energy use per degree day is down 20%: consumption fell from 309,221 kWh to 251,072 kWh and the gas bill from £19,326.29 to £15,535.09, a saving of £3,791.20 in year one against a £5,000 installation cost. The hotel was quoted a 15–20% saving before work began; the meters delivered the top of that range.

“OH4 consulted with us to see how their energy saving solution could save the Georgian House Hotel money on its energy bills whilst also reducing our carbon footprint. The installation process was as seamless as promised and the on-going support and data management have been above and beyond what was expected. Initially OH4 suggested they could save the Hotel between 15 - 20% on our energy bills and based on the latest readings our savings have been 20%. If you are looking to reduce the cost of energy in your premises whilst also reduce your carbon footprint I would strongly suggest getting in touch with Steve and the OH4 team”
Peter Stevens, General Manager, The Georgian House Hotel

How this was measured: twelve months of post-install consumption compared like-for-like against the pre-install year, adjusted for degree days so weather can never flatter the result.

The V1 system is the OH4 Energy Saving System, so client quotes and the full case-study documents refer to it as OH4.
